🥋 How We Teach Karate to Young Children

  1. Basic Moves (Kihon)

    • First, we teach the foundations: punches, blocks, kicks, and stances.

    • Children practise balance, coordination, and discipline while learning the correct way to move.

  2. Kata (Forms/Patterns)

    • Once they know the basic moves, we put them together into short sequences called kata.

    • Kata teaches memory, focus, and how different moves link together.

    • It also helps children build confidence by performing something from start to finish.

  3. Kumite (Partner Work)

    • Finally, we introduce simple, controlled sparring called kumite.

    • This is where children learn timing, distance, and respect for a partner.

    • It’s always done safely, step by step, and never as “fighting”—it’s about learning how to apply techniques correctly.

âś… This step-by-step approach makes sure children build strong foundations before moving on.

  • Kihon gives them the tools.

  • Kata shows them how to use those tools in order.

  • Kumite teaches them how to apply those tools with another person.
