🥋 How We Teach Karate to Young Children
-
Basic Moves (Kihon)
-
First, we teach the foundations: punches, blocks, kicks, and stances.
-
Children practise balance, coordination, and discipline while learning the correct way to move.
-
-
Kata (Forms/Patterns)
-
Once they know the basic moves, we put them together into short sequences called kata.
-
Kata teaches memory, focus, and how different moves link together.
-
It also helps children build confidence by performing something from start to finish.
-
-
Kumite (Partner Work)
-
Finally, we introduce simple, controlled sparring called kumite.
-
This is where children learn timing, distance, and respect for a partner.
-
It’s always done safely, step by step, and never as “fighting”—it’s about learning how to apply techniques correctly.
-
âś… This step-by-step approach makes sure children build strong foundations before moving on.
-
Kihon gives them the tools.
-
Kata shows them how to use those tools in order.
-
Kumite teaches them how to apply those tools with another person.
